Higgs Boson Program @ Fermilab

Over 500 people curious about the Higgs boson visited Fermilab in Batavia on Sunday, July 29, to participate in ‘Ask A Scientist’ day, a program Chicago Council on Science and Technology was pleased to partner on with the National Laboratory.

Fermilab scientist Don Lincoln presented an overview of the Higgs particle and the decades-long search that involved scientists at particle accelerators including Fermi. Fermilab scientists involved in the Higgs boson search were on hand to answer questions about the Higgs particle, the Large Hadron Collider at CERN in Switzerland, and particle physics.

Visitors were able to view Fermilab’s remote operations center for the Large Hadron Collider, and view the laboratory site and surrounding area.

C2ST is looking forward to our own ‘Ask A Scientist’ day, which will be held on Saturday, September 15, at Argonne National Laboratory in Argonne, IL. The event, from 9 am to 4 pm, will feature numerous scientists from a range of disciplines, including particle physics, astrophysics and anthropology.

The event will partner with Argonne’s Energy Showcase, which will be held simultaneously. The Energy Showcase will give attendees the opportunity to go inside the lab, and will feature interactive demos, exhibits and tours, and give participants the opportunity to mingle with prominent energy researchers. Videos and photos will be allowed.

For more information on Chicago Council on Science and Technology’s Ask a Scientist Day, continue to visit www.c2st.org. To register for the Energy Showcase, visit www.anl.gov.
