Join C2ST and Dr. Jeanette Bartley for our monthly Science and Sandwiches Program! On the first Friday of every month, we will be sitting down with an expert during the lunch hour to chat about life, about science, careers, a day on the job, and whatever else you’re interested in learning about them–within reason, anyway.

Dr. Jeanette Bartley is Dean of Academics and Equity at the Illinois Mathematics and Science Academy. With research experience in both the science laboratory and teacher education preparation, she will share her unique perspective as a woman of color in science. As a lifelong learner, she will share her passion to make STEM accessible to all. 

At C2ST, we believe that access to experts is important in ensuring that science is for everyone, which is why we want to host these conversations. We encourage you to grab some grub, make yourself comfortable, tune into the conversation, and if you’re up for it, ask a question.

Jeanette Bartley, PhD

Jeanette Bartley has been active in science education for more than two decades with varied roles ranging from STEM teacher to immunology researcher to board member. Dr. Bartley worked as a science administrator and K-12 mathematics and science coach for the Chicago Public Schools, beginning her career as a middle and high school science teacher on the city’s south side. With research experience in both a science laboratory and teacher education preparation, she will share her unique perspective as a woman of color in science. As a lifelong learner, she will share her passion to make STEM accessible to all.  

Dr. Bartley earned her Ph.D. in Science Education from the Illinois Institute of Technology, a Master of Education in Educational Leadership and Administrative Certification from the American College of Education, a Master of Science in Biology from Chicago State University, a Bachelor of Science in Biological Sciences as well as Secondary Education from DePaul University. Dr. Bartley is currently the Dean of Academics and Equity at the Illinois Mathematics and Science Academy (IMSA). Prior to IMSA, she was the Co-Director of the Urban Teacher Education Program (UTEP) within the Urban Education Institute at the University of Chicago for nearly a decade. At the University of Chicago, Dr. Bartley oversaw the UTEP program’s design, curriculum, and program operations, and the recruitment of students, staff, faculty, and clinical instructors.
