Two of the organizers of the 2017 March For Science Chicago, Kristian Aloma, CEO of Threadline, Inc., and Adam Arcus, Auxiliary Board President of C2ST, talk about storytelling, science, and the importance of a good ol’ fashioned IRL conversation.

In this Speakeasy, Kristian and Adam will chat about how it takes more than a march to help science and why, as science and technology continue to advance, it is more important than ever that science connects with society. If, as scientists and science advocates, we want science to play an important role in our daily lives, the public must not only understand why STEM matters, but then have the tools at their disposal to spread the message. The pair will introduce how storytelling, narratives, and conversation are vital tools to accomplish that mission. As a takeaway, Kristian and Adam will help us with what we can do every day to be effective advocates for science.

Event Details

This event will be held in the private room upstairs. Those under 21 are welcome to attend this program. Delicious food and drink available for purchase, you can view Galway Arms’ menu here. Advanced registration requested, but we ask that you arrive early to ensure seating, as we cannot reserve seats in this location.

Parking and Transportation: The Galway Arms is a 15 minute walk east of the Red/Brown/Purple Line Fullerton Station or is a one minute walk from the Clark & Arlington stop of the NB 22 and 36 buses.

Adam Arcus

Adam Arcus develops solutions to complex and creative problems. As an engineer by trade, Adam has spent the past decade making for a better world through energy efficiency, international marketing, and science advocacy. As the leader of The United Sciences of Chicago, he heads up a team that shines a light on Chicago STEAM organizations to develop their narrative, tell their story, and showcase their work to the Chicago community. Adam relaxes through instagram photography (@adam.arcus), traveling with his wife, Rachel, and running with their chocolate lab, Arwen. He’s also a fairly bad guitar player.

Kristian Aloma

Kristian Alomá is into stories. So much so, he’s pursuing a PhD exploring the relationship between how people think and the stories they tell and consume. It turns out, people don’t just love stories. They are stories. With this in mind he began a marketing firm called Threadline that helps brands become a healthier part of consumers’ stories. He also helped organize the original March for Science Chicago because scientists are his heroes. When not organizing a march or running his business, Kristian can be found running around the Chicago-land area with his wife and two young kids.
