Geraldine L. Oberman, Ph.D currently serves as the American Association of University Women (AAUW) Liaison to the National Girls Collaborative Project (NGCP) for the Great Lakes Region. The vision of NGCP is to bring organizations together that are committed to informing and encouraging girls to pursue careers in the STEM fields.
Gerry was a Compliance Director for the Chicago Public Schools managing system-wide data collection efforts (related to students, schools and programs) to fulfill reporting responsibilities to local, state and federal agencies as well as the media and other public and private organizations. She has extensive preparation and experience in educational research and evaluation having directed and managed numerous large scale state and federally funded evaluation projects across many programmatic areas for the CPS resulting in numerous evaluation reports. Her experiences teaching elementary and middle school students in private, semi-rural, and urban schools and counseling inner city students gives her a unique perspective on how young girls and adolescents learn and thrive.
A life-long learner herself, she credits many professors and teachers with encouraging studies in science, math, statistics and computer technology that nurtured her interests in the STEM fields. She has a particular interest in helping educators and other professionals understand and use evaluation methods and tools to assess program effectiveness. Her academic resume includes a Ph.D. in measurement and evaluation from the University of Chicago; a M.Ed. in evaluation research and policy analysis from the University of Illinois at Chicago; a M.Ed. in guidance and counseling from Kent State University; and a B.S. in elementary education from Youngstown State University.
